March 15-19, 2021

Thank you! – I am going to thank you all in advance for your grace as we switch to another schedule and set-up in April. This has definitely been a year to practice patience and “going-with-the-flow” – which I am not very good at being so type A. 😊 Know that I support you and your family in whatever decision you make regarding staying all on-line or coming to the classroom twice a week. Each of us makes the decision that is best for our family – and I am going to work hard to make sure that everyone receives an equal education. Please make sure to fill out the survey through Fresno Unified by Tuesday, March 16th indicating your choice so that plans can begin to take shape.

End of Quarter 3 – This is the last week of our third quarter. The students have been given time every Monday to make up unfinished assignments and have been offered extra credit opportunities throughout the quarter. If they ask for extra credit this week, they will be told they should have taken advantage of the ones already offered. They will have Monday, March 15 as the last day to turn in any old assignments.

Materials Pick-Up – Mrs. Layne will be providing another art lesson to all fourth-grade students the week before spring break. I will have a small pile of materials for you to pick up on Monday, March 22, so that your child is ready for our art lesson. This lesson will use chalk pastels, so you may want to lay something on the table they will be working on to make clean up easier. Our art lesson is scheduled for Friday. Since our third quarter grades will have closed, I will include a paper copy of your child’s report card in with the materials.

Schedule Changes – I included a copy of the schedule we will all be following in our newsletter last week and have also put it on our website. I will include it at the bottom of this newsletter as well. When we return on April 6, we will be following the new live class schedule even though we will not have groups returning in person until the following week.

Parent Information Sessions – Mrs. Gengozian is offering one more parent information session regarding the hybrid schedule and return to school procedures. Check your Actionaly for the day and time this is being offered. If you have classroom specific questions, you can send me an email or a Remind message and I will answer as best I can.

Answers to Questions Already Asked:

· Students who choose in-person will still need to bring their laptop (charged) and all their classroom supplies each day. If your child does not already have a sturdy backpack, now would be a good time to invest in one.

· Students will be in the classroom, but they will be online for instruction since about two-thirds of the class will still be online each day. This is the only way to bring both groups together for instruction.

· Our grade level plans to incorporate more hand-written work. Students will be getting papers and returning papers on their in-class instruction days. This will mean that our families who choose all on-line may have more frequent pick-up/drop-off days for materials.

Please feel free to send your questions my way and I will answer them to the nest of my ability.

Thank you for your support and for helping keep your child focused at home!
