Longer Newsletter – I apologize for the longer newsletter this week, but I am asking you to please take the time to read through it. We have a lot of changes on the horizon. This Monday is a holiday - we will start back to school on-line on Tuesday, April 6.
HYBRID MEETING – I would like to meet with all students, and an adult if possible, who will be in the hybrid schedule (A or B) this Wednesday morning at 8:30 to go over information and answer questions. I will record the meeting for parents who are unable to be present.
Schedule Changes –When we return on April 6, we will be following a different schedule for our class meeting times. You can find the schedule on our website, the FUSD website, and on your child’s Teams calendar. We will have longer meeting time blocks and our last live meeting will not end until 2:25. There will be more opportunities for the students to complete their independent work during class – and I need your help in making sure that is what is happening. If the students are not working on their assignments when given time during class, they will have a lot of work to complete after 2:25 that must be turned in that same day.
Monday:
9:00-9:30 – Live Class Meeting
210 minutes of independent work
Tuesday – Friday:
9:00-10:10 – Live Class Session
10:10-10:25 – Break
10:25-11:25 – Live Class
11:25- 12:10 – Lunch
12:10-1:10 – Live Class
1:10-1:25 – Break
1:25-2:25 – Live Class
Start Times – PLEASE help your child be at their computer ON TIME. Once we have students in person and on-line, there may be times when our on-line group will need to wait for us to be in the classroom, but I still want to stress that they need to be at the computer on time.
Hybrid Students- If your family has chosen the hybrid schedule, there will be a lot of materials that will need to go back and forth each day. Each child must bring their computer (fully charged) and power cord every day along with many other supplies. I will be meeting with them this week to talk about what to bring every day and what to expect. They will need to look carefully at the Weekly Schedule each day to plan for materials. Masks will be required 100 percent of the school day so it may be a good idea to start finding a mask that would be most comfortable for them to wear for the long haul.
Materials Pick-Up – If your child is online only (Group C), you will need to come to Manchester and pick up materials at a time that works for you between April 12 and 15. If your child is in the hybrid group, they will be receiving their new materials on Tuesday, April 13 (Group A) or Thursday, April 15 (Group B). If your child is in the hybrid schedule but will be attending online during this time instead, you will need to pick them up on either of these days.
District Computer – If your child does not have a district computer, or they are having problems with their district computer, please call the FLATS office at 457-3939 and have one ready to use. Some students in the pilot program who brought their own devices experienced challenges connecting to the internet. While we are taking the California State tests, it is much smoother with the district devices as they are all set up with the secure browser.
STATE TESTING!! – We have dates for state testing that need them to be put on your calendar. Your child will need a quiet place to work during our testing blocks. I have sent home scratch paper with your child’s username and password which they will need each time we take a test – practice or the real thing. Students will test on a secure browser from their computer whether they are at home or at school that day.
STATE TESTING SCHEDULE FOR ROOM 11:
APRIL 28 – 9:00 session
APRIL 29 – 9:00 and 10:25 sessions
MAY 4 – 9:00 and 10:25 sessions (possibly longer as needed)
Thank you for your support and for helping keep your child focused at home!
