January 19 - 22, 2021

Our third quarter has begun, and we are off to a running start. I highly encourage you to keep an eye on your child’s ATLAS and any work completed on Teams so that we can help all the students stay on top of their workload. Keeping an eye on their chat with me is also a great way to keep yourself informed and help your child with any necessary time management. We had a great first week back and are getting used to the new schedule. I was super impressed at how everyone was present and on time!

Monday, January 18 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, so no work will be assigned for the students to complete. We will have our first official Monday on January 25. I have scheduled all of our class Teams meetings through January 29, so you can see them all on the Teams calendar and get a feel for our new schedule.

Our second quarter awards assembly for fourth grade will be held on Tuesday, January 19 at 1:15. Your child will be receiving an award if he/she has a 3.0 or above GPA without any “P or U” in the effort codes. There is a copy in your child’s material bag that should be picked up on January 11. We will end our last live class and head over to the Manchester School Team to attend the assembly.

Music with Mrs. Hendrickson will now take place during our live class session. She will meet with the students from 10:00-10:20 each Wednesday. This will be mandatory, as it is during our class time. The students will join from our class calendar and we will continue our class time when Mrs. Hendrickson has finished her lesson.

Last week, we worked on Factor T charts which are SUPER important for our upcoming lessons on fractions. You child should have completed every page on Friday and checked it against the answer sheets I provided on Teams. Please take a minute and have them share the charts with you.

With our new schedule, we have adjusted the independent work that students should be completing each day. On Monday, when it is not a holiday, I am directed to assign 210 minutes of independent work. (Yes! 3 ½ hours!) We will meet first thing in the morning, and I will go over the independent work for the day. Our fourth-grade team will be providing a suggested schedule each Monday for the independent work. Tuesday-Friday, I am directed to assign 60 minutes of independent work. Of course, all students work at their own pace and some of you will find your child finishing sooner and others taking longer…and that’s okay. If your child did not complete work that he/she was given time to do during live class, that will be additional independent work beyond the 60 minutes. We will be watching these first few weeks and adjusting work as needed.

Thank you for your continued support from home. I really enjoy this group of students and their ability to change and adapt.

Lanie Huene
