Hard to believe that it is already the month of November!! Thanksgiving and winter break will be upon us before we know it.
This week, I will have an optional pick-up , drop-off day on Wednesday, November 4th. You can pick up a weaving project for your child and drop off their Island of the Blue Dolphins book. In addition, they can (but do not have to) drop off their Design an Island project and the art project they made with Mrs. Layne on Friday. If they want to keep the projects at home, that is perfectly fine with me. 😊 The weaving project will be in a small lunch bag and will be outside of our classroom from 8:00-3:15, so you can pick it up when it is most convenient for you. (Please make sure your child does not miss our live classroom instruction.) The brown bag will contain some yarn to get the project started, but your child will need additional yarn to finish it.
Please continue to check your child’s agenda every day. We will have additional independent work assignments that do not have an assignment card, but they will be listed in the agenda that we write in daily. I would also encourage you to keep an eye on your child’s ATLAS. Most of our Room 11 students are staying on top of their work, but there are a few who need some extra motivation in the afternoon so that they are not earning zeros on work that is not being completed. Thank you for any help you can give!
We completed the definition cards for all 25 of our WordMaster words on Friday! The week before Thanksgiving vacation, we will take an analogies test which will test your child’s knowledge of these words. It is a tough test, and it really helps if they know all the definitions of each word. This week, we will be digging into understanding analogies and how they work. We will have a deep understanding of 75 WordMaster words by the end of the school year!
Thank you for all the support you are providing at home to help with independent work and getting your children to our live class sessions on time. Please remember that I am available almost every day from 1:00-2:00 to help the students with whatever questions they may have. (The support hours are listed on their calendars.) Students can simply join the meeting any time during that hour from our Student Support channel. More of the students have been using this lately, and it is fun to help them in a smaller group setting.
Thank you,
Lanie Huene
