October 5 - 9, 2020

Room 11 Families,

This week, I am going to write our weekly newsletter in bullet form to make it a little easier to read. 😊 They seem to have gotten pretty long these last few weeks, but there seems to be so much to share, as you are definitely an integral part of your child’s eLearn education.

Parent Conferences: I sent a link to Actionaly and Remind for you to choose a conference time during the week of October 19 -23. Conferences will be held virtually on your child’s Teams account, and they are in 15-minute blocks. The convenient part…you can join from anywhere. I will have a Parent Conference Channel on our Teams account and will enable the waiting room so that we have privacy during our meetings. If you have not signed up yet, please do so. If you need an interpreter during our conference, please let me know and I will do my best to arrange for one.

2nd Quarter Materials Pick-Up: This Wednesday and Thursday, October 7 and 8, I will have your child’s materials for second quarter ready for pick up in Room 11. Please come to the classroom, with a bag or backpack, between 1:15 and 3:45 to retrieve them. If this time doesn’t work for you, let me know and I can have them in the office waiting for you from 8:00-4:00. PLEASE help your child keep all of their materials together, as we will need them if we return to school during the semester and some have misplaced item sent home in August.

End of the Quarter: This Friday, October 9, is the end of our first quarter! Online learning has definitely been a learning curve for everyone involved, and most of our students have adopted great work habits of completing their work on time. ALL missing assignments must be turned in by Wednesday, October 7 in order to count toward the current grades.

ATLAS and Teams Assignments: PLEASE keep an eye on your child’s Teams Assignments/Grades and their ATLAS account. For second quarter, all work will need to be turned in during the current week, which means Friday may be a busy workday if your child falls behind earlier in the week. Sometimes, assignments are turned in without being completed, so you won’t see them on the assignments tab, but you will see it reflected in the grade and also in a chat message from me. I have been super lenient this quarter regarding late work and need to tighten up those expectations to help your child form good work habits. Thank you for being the extra eyes and motivation on that end of the computer.

Online eLearn Expectations Video: I highly suggest you head over to the Manchester GATE School Team – Fourth Grade Assembly Channel – and watch a short, 20-minute presentation about online learning expectations with your child. Mrs. Gengozian and Mr. Sassano touch on a lot of important pointers to make our eLearn a success.

Thank you for all of your support and encouragement this quarter!!

Lanie Huene
