The week of Back to School Night has arrived! I would love for you to join me for our first ever virtual Back to School Night on Thursday, September 3, at 5:30. There will be a link on your child's Teams calendar which you can use to attend. If you have family members in more than one household, it is fine to log in on both, but you will have to log in using your child's user name and password on each device.
We have a few more "firsts" for your children this week. They will be attending fourth-grade music with Mrs. Hendrickson on Mondays from 2:05 - 2:25. She is our band teacher at Manchester and works with fourth-graders each year to develop a love of music. You children will join her music class from the Music Channel of our Teams page. I will show them where on Monday.
All Manchester students will begin Computer Lab with Mr. Figura and Science Lab with Mr. Pullen this week. Fourth grade students attend these classes every Thursday and they will access them from the Computer Lab and/or Science Team page...NOT our class Team. Our Room 11 students will attend Science Lab from 10:15 - 11:00 and Computer Lab from 11:45 - 12:30 with Mrs. Scott's class. On Thursday, I will meet with the students from 9:00 - 9:45 and will be available for our office hours and academic help in the afternoon.
I have been so impressed with your children!! They are coming to class on time, focusing on the content being presented, participating in the chat or through sharing, and are a joy to teach. I know the learning is tough in front of a screen...as teaching is tough this way as well. Many more are turning on their cameras as they get more comfortable with each other, and it is helping us create a classroom community from afar. One of the best things you can do to help them focus is create as quiet of an area as possible, or provide them with headphones to try to close out the ambient noise. We have some headphones available in the front office at Manchester if we can help you with this.
I would like to encourage you to keep an eye on your child's assignments and on their Teams grade tab. According to the district expectation, your child should be completing 105 minutes of independent work every day. That is 1 hour and 45 minutes of work on assignments outside of our class meeting times. I know it is an adjustment that we will all be getting used to, but most of the work is due the day it is assigned. You are welcome to check over your child's assignment to make sure that he/she has followed directions, but please don't do the work for them.
Grateful for your partnership,
Lanie Huene
